Every ecological walk, botanical inventory, neighborhood reading day, and cooperative youth gathering listed on our 2026 calendar is 100% free of charge and open to all families and residents of Saintes. There is no paid ticketing or commercial registration; simply contact our volunteer secretariat to reserve free equipment loan.
How Our Annual Calendar Connects Neighborhoods to the Saintonge Landscape
Throughout 2026, our volunteer commissions have scheduled regular weekly and monthly appointments designed around the rhythms of family life in Saintes. Whether you live in an apartment in Bellevue, a house in Saint-Pallais, or near the historic center, our meeting points are chosen so that every outing is reachable on foot, by municipal bus, or via our free bicycle pool at 7 Rue Georges Clemenceau.
To guarantee safety and pedagogical quality during wetland walks and microscopy sessions, groups are capped at twenty-four participants accompanied by three trained adult volunteers. Families only need to notify our secretariat by telephone (+33 3 98 76 65 90) or via our Contact page forty-eight hours in advance so we can prepare the right number of youth binoculars, magnifying loupes, and rain boots.

Held at the start of every school vacation period, our book-sharing afternoons allow every child to take home three selected novels, illustrated albums, or documentary atlases for holiday reading at zero cost.
First-Saturday Charente Eco-Walks
Guided by a volunteer hydrologist and a retired biology teacher, these three-hour morning walks teach families how to read flood gauges, identify waterfowl, and understand wetland ecology.
Cooperative Orienteering & Mobility Days
Using topographic maps and magnetic compasses instead of GPS screens, mixed-age teams navigate checkpoints across the parks and Roman monuments of Saintes while solving historical and natural riddles.
Practical Guidelines for Participating Families and School Groups
To ensure that every outing remains welcoming and accessible to all households in Saintes, our volunteer logistics team prepares a complete solidarity kit prior to each outdoor date. If your child does not own waterproof boots, a rain poncho, or binoculars, simply mention their shoe size or age when contacting our secretariat at 7 Rue Georges Clemenceau; our equipment closet stocks thirty pairs of clean youth boots, twenty-five waterproof capes, and twenty optical sets.
Children under the age of ten must be accompanied during Saturday outdoor walks by a parent, grandparent, or designated adult guardian, or be registered within our supervised Wednesday youth group. All participants are covered by the association's collective non-profit civil liability insurance at no charge.
